  • Journalistic Career: After graduating from Madrasatul Islah in Azamgarh in 1922, Islahi ventured into journalism. He served as an associate editor for “Khoonch,” a children’s magazine, and later edited the newspaper “Madinah” in Bijnor, India. Additionally, he was associated with “Sach,” a newspaper founded by Abdul Majid Daryabadi.
  • Scholarly Contributions: Islahi, a Pakistani Muslim scholar, gained renown for his Urdu exegesis of the Quran titled “Tadabbur-i-Quran” (“Pondering on the Quran”). He developed this work based on the ideas of thematic and structural coherence in the Quran proposed by Hamiduddin Farahi.
  • Education under Hamiduddin Farahi: In 1925, Islahi was invited by Hamiduddin Farahi to study the Quran with him. Entranced by Farahi’s teachings, Islahi left his journalistic career to pursue Quranic studies under his mentorship. He imbibed the principles of direct deliberation on the Quran and taught Quranic studies and Arabic literature at the Madrasah during this period.
  • Founding of Daira-i-Hamidiyyah: In 1936, Islahi established the “Daira-i-Hamidiyyah,” a small institute dedicated to disseminating Farahi’s Quranic thought. He published a monthly journal, “Al-Islah,” under this institute’s auspices, translating numerous portions of Farahi’s Arabic treatises.
  • Government Service: Recognized as an expert in Islamic law, Islahi served as a member of the Islamic Law Commission established by the Government of Pakistan in 1956. He held this position until the commission’s dissolution in 1958 under the martial law regime of General Ayub Khan.
  • Political Disengagement: In 1958, Islahi parted ways with the party he was affiliated with due to significant policy disagreements with its leader, Mawdudi. This decision marked his disengagement from active political involvement.
